Most thinspo/Ana blogs on tumblr are not pro Ana. No one is interested in encouraging others to develop a seriously fucked up and dangerous eating disorder. Blogs that post thinspo pics are usually run by teenagers/young adults who are going through hell and would be starving themselves anyway. By reporting and shutting down those blogs, you take away people’s safe spaces, their outlets, and their community. You are helping no one. No one gets an eating disorder because they saw someone on tumblr post a picture of someone thin. You’re not being noble, you’re not saving anyone, you’re being rude and taking something away from someone who already has nothing. If someone gets their thinspo blog deleted, they’re not going to be like “oh well, gonna eat normally now and be totally healthy, cool”. They make a new one and hate you. My blog is for no one else. It is for me. If I couldn’t have it, I would be sad because I wouldn’t have a community and a way to find people going through the same thing, but I would still have an eating disorder and I would just make a new blog. The last thing anyone wants is to help someone else develop a mental illness. Tumblr doesn’t have an option to make your blog private. Stop shutting people down for having an outlet. Most of us have 3 followers anyway.

Ana Advice + Tips and Tricks

When I first began on my ana journey, I browsed pro-ana blogs and other social media outlets for ana tips and tricks to help give me a little push to begin my ana and never found anything helpful for a beginner (only tricks for veteran anas). I found myself having an extremely hard time trying to get the ball rolling and actually staying on track. So, I had to kind of teach myself. I’ve had an on and off battle with ana for 5 years and am currently in the process of my first ana journey since my recovery 2 years ago. In those 5 years, I have taught myself some of the best tricks for myself and my body to have an easier time with the transition to ana including how to stay on track. I want to be able to give advice to new faces in the ana community and help you with a smooth and easy path to begin your ana journey.
Now if you’ve ever looked into becoming ana, the first tricks you may have come across are fasting and high water consumption. Fasting is a very effective way to lose weight - and fast! However, you never want to dive right into restricting yourself and depriving yourself of calories. Although consuming 500 calories or less is highly utilized among pro-anas, beginners should always start small and NEVER dive right in. So, welcome to my first piece of advice:
Never Dive Immediately Into Fasting
Fasting is a great way to lose weight fast, but very hard to maintain if you immediately start depriving yourself of calories. It is very risky to go from consumimg 1,500 calories a day to 500. Not only is it hard to maintain your fast if you dive right in, but you also run a higher risk of health issues too. So instead of diving right in, take baby steps and create a weekly plan like I did! Here’s an example (also take into consideration that you should be drinking at least a full glass of water with and between meals):
- Monday - A hearty breakfast, a small healthy lunch, and normal dinner.
- Tuesday - A bowl of fruit, a small healthy lunch, normal dinner.
- Wednesday - A bowl of fruit, crackers for lunch, normal dinner.
- Thursday - An apple, lots of water for lunch, eat half of your dinner.
- Friday - Same as Thursday.
- Repeat days Wednesday and Thursday until you feel comfortable enough to skip breakfast or dinner.
As you can tell by the list, you’re slowly eating less and less every day, making it easier for you to begin fasting and allows your stomach to shrink faster and more naturally. This list mostly applies to those who still live with their parents (which is why I used the term “normal dinner”) however, if you live by yourself it is more easier to control what you have for dinner and how much.
As I mentioned earlier, you should be consuming lots of water during and between meals .. and I mean LOTS of it. Which leads me to my next piece of advice:
Good Ol’ Fashioned Water (Lots and Lots of it)
In the first week or 2 of your fast, this is where most people cave in and break their fasts. Cravings are out of control and probably the worst around the first few weeks. Instead of breaking your fast by snacking, drink plenty of water until you feel full. This will help suppress your hunger until your fast is over (Not to mention your skin will glow!)
Although fasting and drinking water are the two biggest factors into losing weight, exercise will also be your best friend.
Exercise, Exercise, Exercise
If you’re fasting, drinking water, and exercising then your pretty bones will be protruding from your skin in no time. I’m serious! This will be one of the hardest routines to get in the habit of doing, but if you want results then you gotta do what you gotta do.
Get a membership to your local gym and hit the treadmill for at least 30-40 minutes. Include other cardio and weight loss exercises too. You should be exercising for about 2 hours or more a day. (About 1- 1 and a half for beginners).
Don’t have the money? It’s okay! Go outside and run a few miles, go on a hike, you can even do workouts at home! The internet will be your blessing in times of need lol.
The fact of the matter is is that you need to do some pretty hardcore exercising.
*A little FYI*: If you start seeing stars while working out (or at any point of the day in general) DONT BE ALARMED. That’s normal for anas, in fact we kinda just get used to it after awhile lol. Just make sure to take a breather, drink some water, and continue to whatever you were doing once you feel better.
Beginning ana is not an easy journey, but having the best advice and help will be very beneficial. There are also always fellow anas just like you. The ana community is full of beautiful people just like you who are very supportive and always willing to help. Don’t be afraid to talk to us!

• You’ve heard that a lot already but.. DRINK MORE WATER, and here is why - since you are eating less, your digestive system wont be that fast. You need to drink more water in order to detox your body and keep your metabolism up. Also, it keeps your kidneys working which prevents kidney stones.
• I would recommend you to quit coffee. You probably are thinking “why the fuck should I?!”. First, if you are not drinking it clean (for example with sugar/milk) you are adding “empty” calories to your daily limit. Not to mention it dehydrates you, which makes your skin and lips dryer. For those of you who drink coffee just for the energy boost, I would recommend switching to black tea. You don’t have to trust me - I’m just a girl on the internet - but just try it for yourself.
• If you want, you can fast 12 hours a day. Here is how: Set a time that you
won’t eat after, for example 7pm., and this way you will be fasting all night (you
can’t eat while sleeping), until the next morning at 7am. This makes 12 hours. If
do this for a whole year, at the end you would be fasted half of the year.
• If you are fasting for a longer time (for example 24-36hours), eat something if you feel like passing out. You want to be skinny, not dead. You can chop one carrot (41cal/100g), an apple (52cal/100g), strawberries (33cal/100g).
• If you don’t feel like working out, do yoga instead. It will help with your flexibility, blood circulation and it will make you feel better.
• NEVER, I repeat, NEVER drink “diet, 0cals” coke or soda. It’s just a fake label, it contains a lot of sugars and it all goes to you thighs and tummy.
• For a quick workout/cardio session I recommend jump roping. All you need is a rope and some free space. It burns around 135cals/10min. Keep in mind that this is a very high intesivity exercise.
• Liquid fast works better, since you can consume soups, which can prevent you from binging.
• Drink one glass of water before you eat, take sips every 4-5 bites, and drink one more glass after eating.
• Your stomach is the size or your fist. When prepearing food, put food in the plate that is exactly the size of your fist. Otherwise, your stomach will expand and you will feel bloated and huge.
• Get at least 8 hours of sleep every night. Since you are eating less calories, sleep is the only source of energy. If you sleep less, you will be more prone to binges, which will destroy your progress so far.
• Always plan calories in case you binge - for example if your daily limit is 500cals, make it 700cals. This way if you binge you won’t be that mad at yourself and if you keep on track, you will be under the daily limit which will make you happier.
Usefull information/TMI:
• You won’t poop as much as you used to.
• Since you will be eating less, from the lack of nutrients your lips will be exstremely chapped, so I would recommend you to invest in a good quality (if possible organic) lipbalm.
• You will have to pee a lot from all that water intake.
• Always mesure youself in the morning, after you pooped and before you’ve eaten/drank anything. This is your true weight.
• It is possible when you become underweight to lose your period which is very unhealthy and may cause problems when you want to have kids in the future.
• From the lack of nutrients, you hands/feet will always be cold, your skin will be dry, your nails will break easily, your hair whill thin out and break easily.
• Drink 2 cups of green tea everyday to keep your metabolism up so you can poop. If you haven’t pooped for 3 days - see a doctor.
• You will feel cold all the time. During winters, you may feel like your hands/feet aren’t listening to you.
• Some of the “thinspiration” girls here on tumblr are sucking in their stomachs so hard to look even skinier. Don’t get discouraged because you don’t look like them.
